PE and Sport Funding
Physical Education and Sport are very important at our school and each class has at least two, one hour sessions of physical activity a week. We believe that physical ability and sport can greatly contribute to the holistic development of a child.
Our vision for P.E. in our school is to provide children with a movement foundation for lifelong participation in physical activity. We support all children to be physically literate and encourage their development to be competent and confident movers.
It was first announced in 2013 that the government would be providing funding for physical education and school sport. We started to receive this funding from September 2014.

Cross Country
On Tuesday 19th October 2021 our Year 5/6 boys and girls cross country teams took part in their first event of the year at Witton Park. They all showed great sportsmanship and resilience and represented the school superbly.
Unfortunately we did not manage to get a photo of the girl’s team but we definitely will next time!
Boys' Football
Our boys’ football team have reached the finals of the Jubilee Shield. They played three games, winning all three with scores of 4-0, 2-0 before finally coming back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 in the last game. Well done boys and good luck in the finals.
Sporting Success
Gymnastics – British Open Championship
A massive well done to Eden from Class 11 who performed at the Rhythmic Gymnastics British Open Championship at Fenton Manor in Stoke. After a tough competition in the Espoir group section (Espoirs are usually 12 years old), Eden and her young teammates, who finished 5th in the Ball and 2nd in the Free event, were awarded the Silver Medal for their free routine.
Football
Well done to Logan in Class 6 who represented Blackburn Rovers against Sheffield United scoring two amazing goals.
We are proud of you!
Cricket
Batter of the Year
Big congratulation to Sai for getting the award for the Allstars Batter of the year from Darwen Cricket Club.
Netball
On Friday 24th September, the staff from The Redeemer met with Staff from St James’ for a friendly game of netball last week. It was a huge success on both sides with a very healthy final score of 8-8 which seemed to surprise us all and lead to a quick call for a rematch soon. Great fun was had by all who played and supported.

School Games Mark Award
We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games PLATINUM Mark Award.
The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
