At The Redeemer, we are committed to bringing our curriculum to life through meaningful extra-curricular experiences that awaken children’s passion for learning and show how important what we learn is to the real world. We intend that every subject on our curriculum has a club or a trip/experience to fully show the breadth and importance of everything that we teach. We intend for every child to access at least one extra-curricular experience every year ensuring that they leave The Redeemer with memorable experiences together with long-term learning.

Statistically across the country, Pupil Premium and SEND children have worse attendance in extra-curricular opportunities than their peers. As a result, we choose to open a limited number of places for PP and SEND pupils on the clubs, 48 hours before opening places out to the rest of the school. As per the school’s Pupil Premium Statement, Pupil Premium children receive discounted experiences through school.

Attendance for after school experiences is monitored over the course of the year to ensure that every child in school access at least one extra-curricular experience a year, with particular focus on SEND and PP children. We pupil voice children to receive their thoughts on what could be done better, targeting those children not currently accessing clubs, gaining ideas for future experiences, ensuring we provide the best possible service for our children. 

We provide extra-curricular experiences in two of the following ways:

School-Led Trips and Experiences

Trips and experiences are designed to complement the curriculum being taught. They are structured to ensure children have meaningful experiences that link to what is being learned while considering feasibility and cost of the trips to households.

Societies

Societies are groups that contribute to the wider life of school, linking to our values and ethos. Some societies are elected in classes during Democracy Week while others are appointed for Year 6 children. All societies are given an action plan to help them achieve aims throughout the year.

Extra-Curricular Clubs

Clubs before or after school that run for a 6-week period during a term. These clubs offer a variety of experiences to children in Year 1-6 with children in EYFS being integrated during the Summer Term. Lists of clubs can be found on the school extra-curricular page.

Lunchtime Clubs

Children are designated a lunchtime club to take place indoors or in the field to ensure children are given structured opportunities to learn about team and different sports to play.

Sport Clubs/Events

Throughout the year, we enter a wide range of sports events through Blackburn with Darwen Sport Events as well as taking part in SEND Sport Festivals.
