Jubilee Shield

On finals night on the 5th November, the football team narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals. In the first match against St. Paul’s, the team led 1-0 for the majority of the match, but conceded a equaliser with the last kick of the game. The team followed this up with a comfortable 3-0 success against St. James’. In the final game, pre-tournament favourites Salesbury proved too strong and prevailed with a 4-0 success. This led to the team unfortunately missing out on a semi-final spot on goal difference. Well done to the team for a super effort.

Sports Funding

Primary School’s Sports Funding

The government has announced new funding for school sport and PE worth £150m a year for the next two years.

At The Redeemer CEP School we are using our funding to:

  • Release members of staff to organise and coordinate intra-school competitions to encourage 100% participation in sporting activity and run gifted and talented workshops providing pupils with opportunities to excel and develop their skills.
  • Support and develop our teachers to deliver PE with confidence and to improve their skills in a wide range of sports through sourcing specific training.
  • Purchase a new, exciting scheme of work that will ensure progression and learning opportunities.
  • Sign up to the Blackburn with Darwen S.L.A to be able to access a wide variety of inter-school sporting competitions.
  • Hire sports coaches to deliver high-quality after school sports sessions.
  • Develop links with local sports clubs.
  • Provide places for pupils to attend after school sports clubs.
  • Provide extra swimming lessons for children in Year 6 to ensure all children leave The Redeemer being able to swim at least 25 metres.

We recently applied for the Sainsbury’s School Games Kitemark award. This rewards schools for their commitment to and development of competition, school sport and physical education. We were externally validated and were judged to meet the Gold criteria. This is the highest level that can be gained and we are extremely proud of this achievement.

After four weeks, and six rounds of qualifying nights, with a massive 28 primary schools and over 500 pupils competing, the Year 5 and 6 Athletics team came second at 2014 Sportshall Athletics Finals.
